He is full-voiced and singing while I plunk away at the piano. Then there are those times when Tommy makes a solo visit. They both landed on my balcony laughing about their gag. Of course they were pals in heaven, I figured, as I am also casting director. Instead of getting miffed at the muffin, I used my creative powers to bring these two beloveds back to life. While on my knee performing an act not unlike a hockey player, I decided the muffin’s leap was the work of jokesters. I needed the stick of my broom to coax it out. Here is a recent episode where I employed this trick: An English muffin hopped out of the toaster and landed in the space between the stove and refrigerator. And I direct amusing scenes where they make star turns. Photos taken at the time show a 74-year-old euphoric with his late in life accomplishment.īut I also don’t wait for momentous occasions to recall my dearly departed. I conjure them when I feel a need for their presence. On June 7, 2009, Ron’s “Making Happy” appeared in online stores and at a Barnes and Noble. That date, January 13, 1998, demands celebration because it gifted both of us 14 years of happiness.įor my older brother Ron, along with his birthday, I will use the candle to mark the anniversary of his first published book. So, I decided I would light a candle on their birthdays, but I wouldn’t stop there.įor Tommy, I will also light a memorial candle on our anniversary. Why remember deaths, rather than happier occasions? Why recall hospital beds and home hospice?ĭid the bible insist we light memorial candles on their yahrzeit? I did a search and the closest I could find was this link between light and God: a biblical verse from Proverbs that says, “The human soul is the lamp of God.” I think I bypassed the dates because I question the ritual. In my case, I planned to light them for my father, mother, second husband and my brother.īut all of those dates passed without me ever opening the box. I intended to use them for their traditional purpose: to light them on the Hebrew anniversary of a loved one’s death. In June of 2021, I bought a six-pack of yahrzeit candles. This is really useful if you’re working with a team and need a single source of truth for your design system or style guide. When you subscribe to a Shared Library, your Library file will remain linked to the original Sketch Cloud Document so, if the creator uploads a new version, you’ll get a notification and you can choose to update your local Library as well. With the latest update, you can now subscribe to Documents uploaded to Sketch Cloud and they’ll be added directly to Sketch, as Shared Libraries. With Sketch Cloud, you can already upload a Document and share your designs with colleagues or clients, all from inside the app. We’re excited to say that we’ve taken advantage of this feature and teamed up with Apple to build their official iOS 11 UI kit right into Sketch, as a Shared Library. With Shared Libraries, you can now download, and subscribe to, Libraries that have been uploaded to Sketch Cloud and, because all of this is built on open web technologies, these Libraries can be stored and accessed from anywhere on the web. In Sketch 49 we’re building on this foundation and bringing you a new way to share and access Libraries. In Sketch 47 we introduced Libraries and they’ve empowered you and your teams to work better, together. You can find out more about how to make the most of Prototyping in our documentation. With Prototyping built right into Sketch, it’s now easier than ever to take your designs from ideation through to realization and to share your concepts with the people that matter. Don’t forget to download the new Sketch Mirror update to try out your Prototypes there. If you’re working on designs for iPhone or iPad, we’ve now added Prototyping support to Sketch Mirror for iOS, so you can preview your prototypes on the screens they were designed for. You can even create Start Points that let you launch your preview at a specific Artboard, so they know exactly where to begin. If you want to share a working prototype with a developer, colleague or client, just upload to Sketch Cloud, send them the link and they can interact with and comment on your designs, right in the browser. Prototyping makes presenting your work and getting sign-off on projects a whole lot easier. To view your Prototype in action just click the Preview button in the toolbar and your prototype will launch in a dedicated window, allowing you to interact with your app or web design as if it were the real thing. Rinse and repeat across your whole project and you can quickly and easily build a lightweight, working prototype of your app or website - perfect if you’re working on a project and need to share a quick demo or you want to check the usability of a specific workflow. Once you have two Artboards connected, you can add a simple animation for a smooth transition from one state to the next. To turn your static designs into clickable prototypes, simply select a layer and add a Link to an Artboard. This new set of tools allows you to connect your Artboards, apply transitions, and then preview your designs right inside Sketch, on your mobile devices with Mirror, or on Sketch Cloud, where you can share your prototypes with colleagues, clients and the world. In Sketch 49, we’re introducing Prototyping, letting you transform your designs into interactive prototypes and preview them, without ever leaving the app.

It is honestly best to go into this title as blind as possible and use the bare minimum mods. I have drowned countless hours into this game, playing and replaying it, and while it has no crafting system, the survival and horror aspects are running on all gears in this one. You are an amnesia stricken blank slate with only one discernable goal to kill a guy called Strelok. S.T.A.L.K.E.R takes place in a fictional world where the Chernobyl disaster led to some strange anomalies and occurrences. S.T.A.L.K.E.R – Shadow Of ChernobylĪh yes, how can we talk about FPS survival horror without talking about S.T.A.L.K.E.R, my favourite RPG of all time? It’s not multiplayer, it’s not new, it’s not even very polished (Nothing a healthy modding community couldn’t fix). If you can ever afford it, don’t bring it to the field. Most rifles are DMRs, with only one of the most expensive guns being a fully automatic rifle. Hunt has a progression system similar to EFT and puts you in the same PvPvE situation, but it’s set in the late 1800s.įorget about Acog sights, vertical grips. Hunt: Showdown is what would happen if you took Escape From Tarkov added the classic spaghetti western setting and mutated zombie-like inhabitants. Although KeepUp Survival is still in alpha stages, it shows great promise and is well worth your time. In addition, the developer is very active on the forums and friendly. The developer not only keeps the game updated and responds to bug reports etc., but they also look at suggestions and criticism from the player base. Developed by one person, KeepUp Survival is an open-world, third-person, multiplayer survival affair. Although an early access title, it’s early access done right (so far.). You don’t need zombies to scare you when you’re surrounded in a barn holding onto your HK-416 rifle you grinded all week to get. While many might not consider it horror, personally, it’s as horrifying as it gets. After due deliberation of equipment loadout, from the preference of weapon to how many bottles of water you’d need for the mission (Yes, you have to account for how thirsty your character might get depending on their time in the field), you load into a PvPvE world with relatively competent AI and a bunch of sweaty Shroud wannabes and soon learn the harsh reality, if you die in the field you lose everything you brought with you, this mechanic makes players think twice before taking an engagement with the enemy, enhancing the survival aspect of the game. You begin with a relatively small amount of in-game currency, which is reset each cycle. What it misses in the crafting department more than makes up for in the survival department. EFT deals in a unique progression system, allowing you to build your own character from the ground up, equipping them with valuable arsenal and equipment necessary for victory. Describing Escape from Tarkov to someone who has not played it is difficult but not nearly as challenging as the game itself. In 2002, just a year after the first iPod was released, the concept of switching between different artists and songs while playing a video game was pretty ground-breaking. “They had plenty of connections with major labels and were able to capitalise on these connections, increasingly building popular music content into the games.” “They’d previously worked for BMG and were involved in music video production,” Miller explained. “Almost all of the Vice City soundtrack is existing popular music which was a huge deal and a huge investment in terms of licensing, marketing and making connections with record labels.”Ĭo-founders of Rockstar Games, Dan and Sam Houser, were well placed to take the task on. “Rockstar did an amazing job of world-building through licensed popular music,” Kiri Miller, professor of American Studies at Brown University, told us. Vice City wasn’t the first GTA game to approach music innovatively – GTA 3 featured a radio station that played the soundtrack from 1983’s Scarface – but the canon of music included in Vice City, plucked almost entirely from the ’80s, showed the power of popular music to really immerse players in a specific time and place. The fictional radio hosts are heavily satirised, scripts dripping in hyperbole, as they intersperse the music with surreal talk show segments, fake jingles and spoof ads. Just to name a few, there’s Wildstyle Pirate Radio for hip hop, V-rock for heavy metal, and Emotion 98.3 for power ballads. Hop into a car, any car, and you’ll find seven music radio stations to choose from, each playing their own distinct style of music from the ’80s. It’s a parody of Miami and from its architecture and polyester suits to its fake DJs and violence, it’s all about excess.” “The game draws a lot on the films Miami Vice and Scarface. “Vice City brought real, pre-existing music into a satire of saturated ’80s aesthetics,” Andra Ivanescu, senior lecturer in Game Studies at Brunel University, told us. From well-revered hits to some more obscure tracks, and genres spanning heavy metal, pop, hip hop and new wave, Rockstar’s sun-soaked venture had something for everyone. Set in 1986 Miami, Vice City – an open-world game part of the Grand Theft Auto ( GTA) franchise – introduced players to some of the ’80s most iconic tracks. READ MORE: ‘Silent Hill’ is back, say the rumours – but what does that mean?.These amazing games saw 107,394,097 and 90,414,836 plays respectively with the Spider-Man: Miles Morales game bringing in a substantial $255,597.95 in royalties. This year marks two decades since Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – but although the game came out in 2002, Vice City’s veteran players will likely feel more nostalgic for a different decade altogether: the ’80s. Who would have thought that Spider-Man: Miles Morales would have featured in the top ten streamed games according to Spotify? Well it does, and it is in good company with God of War close by. Icelandic band Low Roar saw their track ‘Don’t Be So Serious’ with 23,424,933 plays on Spotify alone. The top ten tracks from the soundtrack saw 137,811,743 plays on Spotify and earned $327,991 through royalties. Kojima Productions 2019 game, Death Stranding, is another that features highly in the streaming list. The epic Western tale and its subsequent prequel were blessed with a soundtrack that increased the immersive experience of the Old West and has fans yearning for a third installment. Previews For GTA 6 Are Apparently Rolling Out Imminently! – FandomWireĪnother amazing franchise that features on the top-ten list of games sees both Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2, again from Rockstar Games. What other games join GTA in the top streaming list? It is no surprise that a GTA game tops this list, given how good the soundtracks are.Ī study compiled by Swiss-based company SecureCheats looked at the top 50 video games as taken from IMDb and, the gaming experts extracted Spotify data for each streamed track per soundtrack along with calculated earnings, using the streaming platform royalty calculator. Developers recognise this as an essential part of the success of a title and place great emphasis on selecting the tracks which they think will better the player’s love of the game. Given how much time players are spending on gaming, an accompanying soundtrack is one major factor that serves to enhance the experience. So it may come as no surprise that in a recent survey utilising streaming data from Spotify, the 2013 Rockstar Game Grand Theft Auto V was found to be the highest amongst video games. Grand Theft Auto ( GTA) is one of those memorable games where the gaming experience is substantially enhanced by the accompanying soundtrack. Managers assume that the know-how that is required for the synergy is within the organization and a lot of the time, this is not the case. It encourages executive managers to intervene greatly, which could lead to more harm than good. Managers compel the business units to cooperate in the synergy. A 2012 survey by Bain & Company found that overestimating synergies was the second biggest cause of post-deal disappointment. Some executives base their achievement in an organization on this, and therefore make it their most important priority. Managers consciously or unconsciously underestimate the costs of the synergy and overestimate the benefits so as to give themselves reason for the organization to go ahead with the synergy whether or not its benefits will outweigh the costs. This is because of the executives' view that the advantages that synergies bring along are their job, so their thinking is distorted rather than focusing on the most important aspects. Managerial bias conflicts with the aims of synergies. Increase in size Ĭorporate synergies due to mergers result in larger firm size which is perceived as more attractive to some investors as well as a larger firm gives a competitive advantage in an industry as higher market share allows firms to be more dominant and able control the market more. So, they could merge with a corporation taking a loss in order to reduce their tax burden. The amount of tax a corporation pays is based on the amount of profit. Subsidiaries are offered the most advantages. Thus, corporate synergies are able to overcome problems faced by independent firms and are able to reach positions that could take six years if these firms existed independently. Synergy thus results in the strength of one corporation complementing the other. Synergies, therefore, result in more creative ideas and people are more likely to take risks due to the merging of ideas so there are more innovative solutions brought up compared to working alone Hunt, & Osborn, 1991). Advantages Managerial synergy Īn increase in managerial effectiveness, which is required for the success of a corporation, will result in more innovative ideas that will improve the performance of the corporation as a whole. This led to greater problems as Cadbury's staff became uncertain about their job security which resulted in Cadbury's staff changing their attitude to work due to the fears that arose. For example when Kraft took over Cadbury, they tried to reduce costs by shutting down a factory that employed 400 staff. McKinsey is a global consultancy making revenues and therefore suffers due to neglecting day-to-day activities that will bring in revenue. This leads to companies sometimes trying to reduce costs too much and make that their main goal after merging, which was found in the study from McKinsey. This is related to the economic concept of economies of scale. Examples include the headquarters of one of the predecessor companies, certain executives, the human resources department, or other employees of the predecessor companies. Cost synergies are realized by eliminating positions that are viewed as duplicate within the merged entity. Cost Ī cost synergy refers to the opportunity of a combined corporate entity to reduce, or eliminate expenses associated with running a business. If the corporations do not do due diligence, negative synergies may arise, in which the corporations would have been better off existing on their own. Positive synergies arise when the combined corporation will bring about better results than the two independent corporations, as in the saying "the whole is better than the sum of the parts". The synergy value should not be confused with the control premium these metrics should be calculated separately. Seeking for synergies is a nearly ubiquitous feature and motivation of corporate mergers and acquisitions and is an important negotiating point between the buyer and seller that impacts the final price both parties agree to see Mergers and acquisitions § Business valuation. Synergies are divided into two groups: operational (revenue enhancement and cost reduction) and financial (decrease in cost of capital, tax benefits). Corporate synergy occurs when corporations interact congruently with one another, creating additional value. Financial benefit expected from corporate merger or acquisitionĬorporate synergy refers to a financial benefit that a corporation expects to realize when it merges with or acquires another corporation. Was there a layup package, or maybe a signature move that you were most excited to emulate and bring to NBA 2K24? It’s something I think we’ve taken to the next level on NBA 2K24. Making the NBA players play exactly like their real-life counterparts is a never-ending journey for us. It’s the animations they get, whether it’s their layup packages, jump shot packages, or their dribble moves. Do they like to drive right or left, do they like to pull up off the drive, or do they like to go to the rim and finish strong through traffic, all these different things. It comes down to the way that AI works, the strategies, and just the brains that we give our players and what they like to do with it. So really it comes down to a lot of things. What are the NBA players doing? What are their moves? What are the shots they’d like to take, and then adding those into our game the best we can to make them reflect who they are. So for us it’s always looking at what is the NBA. There’s a lot of repetitive actions in basketball that people build up their muscle memory for, you can tell KD shoots a certain way. If you’re a fan of the NBA and basketball in general, I feel like it’s one of those team sports where, if you were able to see a silhouette of the game being played, and you couldn’t really see the players, you would still be able to know who’s who, just because people are so distinct in the way they move, the way they shoot. And we’ve always deemed it a signature style. That’s something that we started on a journey of, I think, around 2K7. What was the underlying inspiration for the gameplay improvements regarding specific players’ movements implemented in NBA 2K24? So those are the kinds of things we’re always trying to improve on year after year. Or if you’re getting guarded, and you’re taking bad shots, you get the results you expect. And scoring in the perimeter feels correct, you get the right results when you take the right shots. So the body up, that’s basically our on-ball defense in the collisions that happen when you body up the ball-handler, that system got blown out, especially under the basket/around the rim, that contact there, the post-contact in the paint shots especially–being able to put a body on a shooter in the paint was a big aspect of improving paint defense. That’s one that I think we really stepped into this year thinking, how can we improve it on different levels and different systems in our game. One of the biggest things that the community at large really wanted to see improved was paint defense. Were there any other community-requested changes that the team wanted to make sure were implemented in the game this year? Pretty much every aspect of gameplay was made more accessible. And it really extended to everything from shooting to defense, coaching. So, that was a big focus for this year, in just making the game more accessible. But at the same time, we felt that we could have made it a little more accessible for the newer players and for the players who are young kids or people who are new to 2K. And they loved shooting last year, especially the more advanced and hardcore players really loved how it was more skill-based, and really let the best players rise to the top. That’s where a lot of our design changes come from, directly from the community. That was something we heard loud and clear from our community. There’s a ton of highlights for gameplay, but I think one of the main things we wanted to focus on this year was accessibility. What are some of the changes to gameplay that you’re most excited to highlight for the fans? Gameplay upgrades are a big focus for NBA 2K24. The gameplay on the sticks is what my team is in charge of and what I’m directly involved with. Mike Wang: My role is basically anything that involves the on-court experience, controls, and animation. PlayStation Blog: For starters, can you tell us about your overall role on NBA 2K24? We recently sat down with Gameplay Director Mike Wang to discuss improvements and how the gameplay is more accessible for newcomers in NBA 2K24, available September 8 on PS5 and PS4. The NBA 2K franchise has a storied history of bringing the most authentic hoop gaming experiences to basketball fanatics and gamers alike.
